Simple Past Tense with 5 useful practice questions

Tense is divided into three parts, these are: Present, Past and Future Tense.

♦ Present tense shows the action which is going on in current period of time.
♦ Past tense shows the action which happened earlier.
♦ Future tense shows action which is going to take place in next time.
Present tense is divided into 4 types, these are:-
  1. Simple Present Tense
  2. Present Continuous Tense
  3. Present Perfect Tense
  4. Present Perfect Continuous Tense
Past tense is also divided into 4 types, these are:-
  1. Simple Past Tense
  2. Past Continuous Tense
  3. Past Perfect Tense
  4. Past Perfect Continuous Tense
Future Tense is divided into 4 types, these are:-
  1. Simple Future Tense
  2. Future Continuous Tense
  3. Future Perfect Tense
  4. Future Perfect Continuous Tense

What are the uses of Simple Past Tense?

〈 Simple Past Tense is used to express an action that was completed in the past at a definite time.
Ex- They sang a beautiful song yesterday in the party.
〈 It expresses an action that clearly took place at a definite time even though the time is not mentioned.
Ex– The city bus arrived half an hour late.
〈 It expresses habitual action in the past.
Ex- When Seema was in class 10th, she scored 90% in her board examination.
〈 It denotes an action which is actually going on at the time started.
Ex- While she worked he was sleeping.

What is the helping verb of Simple Past Tense?

‘Did’ is used as helping verb in Simple Past Tense.
Note- In Simple Past Tense, in affirmative sentence we don’t use helping verb. Instead of using helping verb, we use past form of the verb.

Which form of the verb is used in Simple Past Tense?

Past form of the verb is used in affirmative sentence whereas base form of the verb is used in all other sentences of Simple Past Tense.

Affirmative Sentence:-
Subject+ Verb (Past form) + Other words
1- They did their best.

2- You worked hard for living.
Here in this sentence,
